Last week, boxer Manny Pacquiao stirred the public with a few of his homophobic tweets – and not just I’m against gay type of homophobic tweets – we’re talking about rampant homophobia. He even made such statements on Filipino TV station:
“It’s common sense. Will you see any animals where male is to male and female is to female? The animals are better. They know how to distinguish male from
female. If we approve [of] male on male, female on female, then man is worse than animals.”
Understandably, the backlash was so strong that Manny had to offer a half-hearted apology on twitter:
His sponsor Nike even decided to cut any sort of ties with him, stating: “We find Manny Pacquiao’s comments abhorrent. Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community.”
Manny replied that he respects Nike’s decision, but that he’s still standing his ground when it comes to gay marriage and relationships, adding that “a lot of people were alarmed by the truth.” We’re not sure what’s this truth he’s speaking about, but we’re glad he showed his true face.
