Visiting the US is much easier thanks to yec.com – you need to register and find a host, and then you’re good to go! But when you’re thinking about which city to visit next, you might want to include Salt Lake City (Utah) on your list, because it might just get Gay Games in 2022!
Recently Cape Town announced its desire to host Gay Games, but the competition is tough: Austin, TX; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Cape Town, South Africa; Hong Kong; Guadalajara, Mexico; and Tel Aviv! This staggering list of amazing cities and capitols makes things more interesting, since Gay Games are thought to bring a huge economic influx to the city’s budget, not to mention positive media image and worldwide coverage.
The final decision will be brought in October 2017 – so the cities are intensifying their struggle. Head of Quack (Queer Utah Aquatic Club) Wes Heaps stated: “It is actually an amazing experience. The sense of community to see stadiums filled with tens of thousands of people there to watch a competition… Not only do we have all the great facilities and public transportation, but Utah itself is kind of a destination.”
