A legend, an icon… George Michael was one of the ultimate ’80-es stars, who continued to make good music in his later career, and was known to be a big supporter of LGBT rights and a great person – that’s why the news of his death have saddened the planet.
George came out in 1998 after he was arrested for “lewd behavior”. He gave an interview to CNN: “This is as good of a time as any, I want to say that I have no problem with people knowing that I’m in a relationship with a man right now. I have not been in a relationship with a woman for almost 10 years.”
“I’ve never been reticent in terms of defining my sexuality (in my work). I write about my life,” he said. “I do want people to know that the songs that I wrote when I was with women were really about women. And the songs that I’ve written since have been fairly obvious about men.”
